Carl Fernelius World War II Diary

Scope and Contents

Carl Fernelius was born 6 September 1923 in South Weber, Utah. He was drafted in June of 1943, and received his orders to go to Ogden, Utah to work as an MP at the POW camp at the DDO. Military correspondence, certificates, discharges, photograph, and miscellaneous United States Armed Forces papers pertaining to Ogden, Utah natives, Charles B. and Earl M. Stone. Most of these documents pertain to World War II service. Included is a commendation for Charles Stone’s military duty, signed by President Harry S. Truman.

Abstract The DDO Prisoner of War Collection was created from materials gathered for the POW exhibit created by Special Collections in the Stewart Library in 2006. It is broken up into two main series, POW Collection and POW Exhibit and OHI. The POW Collection series were items gathered after the exhibit that deal specifically with the camp. Don Emerson WWII Collection

The Don Emerson Collection was donated by Don in 2016. This collection contains two series; this first contains information and photographs pertaining to his service during World War II in Africa and Italy, including artifacts. This includes his Purple Heart, dog tags and a German Iron Cross. The miscellaneous series contains information and photograms from his childhood in Iowa.
